Unlike other stories which starts with once…. Mine starts with a "Miracle". My life actually started with a miracle. I come from a common middle class family. But I had big dreams and an expensive one too. I wanted to be a pilot ! I was passionate about flying. I couldn’t think of anything other than flying .Even though my parents tried to change my mind initially because of financial constraint, later they stood by me and helped in pursuing my dreams. I was ridiculed by my friends, My relatives turned their backs on me. Even the people whom my family helped once, tried to discourage me. They told me to just get married. I am just a girl, my family and I are fools to even fancy about flying. For 3 years I tried my best for help with various banks and with different charity organizations. I left no plan unturned and no prospective benefactor in reach unapproached.
Then one day in 2008 my brother saw an advertisement in a local newspaper about Kadur Seetharamaiah Parvathamma Trust. They had mentioned that they provide financial aid for students to pursue higher education. There I met Belur Bhagavan, a tall white haired gentleman clad in white. After meeting me and my family, he decided to help me financially. To this day, I still do not know what he saw in me or how he concluded that I am worthy of his generosity. That’s the first time ever I met someone other than my family who actually believed in me. He then put me in contact with Saroja Naidu. Again, I was amazed at the kindness and the support she gave me. It is not just about the financial support they gave me but also the part where they believed in someone like me, a diffident and under-reassured woman that the society had prescribed for me because of perceived gender values. The opportunity that Bhagavan opened up for me infused fresh enthusiasm and confidence in me. Today I am a Commercial Pilot License holder. And I can proudly say it wouldn’t have been possible without the support of Bhagavan and Saroja.
Bhagavan and Saroja were not obligated to help me or others like me. They did not have to do anything and could have sent me empty handed and disheartened. But they chose to give me a helping hand. I can speak without fear of contradiction and say they not only helped me to achieve but inspired me and encouraged me in so many ways. Even now I am confused as to how I might express my sentiments and feelings of gratitude for the good fortune that has overwhelmed me. Even when I repay it back, it still will not measure up to what they have done. I do not believe that I can ever repay it back to them measure for measure. Before I was leaving for US to do my pilot training, Bhagavan told me that I can show my gratitude by helping others. This is yet another lesson that I have learnt through him.
People say as long as you pursue your dreams with determination and hard work, you will achieve them, but I think otherwise. At least in my case, pursuing dreams was not enough. Not giving up was not enough. It is only possible with encouragement and support; not just from family but also from people around.
Bhagavan once mentioned how in his tough times, one of his teachers helped him. He remembers him by helping other students like me. I in turn must help others. Every person who gets help must help more. It is like a tree branching out. Kadur Seetharamaiah Parvathamma Charitable trustees taught me just that. Theirs’ is the most selfless act I have ever seen and such act is hard to come by these days. They prove to me that instead of complaining about the wrong things around us, how I should play my part in doing the right thing. They not only encouraged me to reach my goals but also to be a better person.
My life finally started for me when I began to fly. I realize miracles do not happen just from prayers or only in religious places. KSPC Trust showed me that good deeds are like prayers and humanity is like religion. They work for the well-being of the society by helping innumerable students and these deeds just multiply. KSPC Trust changed my perception towards life. I saw miracle through them. They are my role models to compete with and follow in their footsteps.
“At times our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person. Each of us has cause to think with deep gratitude of those who have lighted the flame within us. ”
